Membership categories

The Healthcare Library provides a professional library and information service supporting health and social care employees in the North Hampshire area.

Members of the general public are welcome to use printed resources for reference purposes only.

There are four categories of membership as follows:

Core (primarily NHS employees based within Hampshire and the Isle of Wight)

Partner (staff of organizations working in partnership with the NHS to provide care and/or take NHS students on placement, and NHS staff working outside HIOW)

Pre-registration student (Southampton, Bournemouth, Surrey Universities)

External (private sector, general public)

Core members:

NHS employees based within HIOW (including Trusts, PCTs, strategic/special health authorities, clinical networks)
GPs, practice staff, pharmacists, opticians and dentists with NHS contracts based within HIOW
Macmillan and Marie Curie nurses
Defence Medical Services staff in secondary care
Staff with bank, locum and honorary NHS contracts based in HIOW who have worked in the last 6 months
Department of Health staff in HIOW-based teams
Staff of NHS Professionals/other NHS approved agencies
Hospices (adult & children's)
Social services staff based in NHS locations
Health Protection Agency, National Blood Service
Ark-based staff including Pelican Centre
Health care students on placement in organisations within HIOW
Services for core members

Charitable organization care homes (e.g. Brendoncare)
Social services staff not based at NHS locations eg care homes
Residential care homes (P personal care & N nursing care)
Hampshire Clinic
Day care facilities run by charitable/voluntary sector organizations
Private nurseries on NHS sites/taking students on placement
Special schools
Police surgeons
NHS and DoH staff working outside HIOW
Retired North Hampshire core members
Services for partner members
